LOOK IN OUT
I have always been inspired by the fascinating portraiture of Georgia O'Keeffe by Alfred Stieglitz. I studied and researched his photographs of her - the settings, what the photos told me about their relationship, what was mysterious and expressive about them. LOOK IN OUT was inspired by these factors. The installation component of the piece, me as 'Georgia' shrouded in black and white in the window pane, is constructed from 2 out of the 3 original windows from the cottage on the hill above the Stieglitz mansion where O'Keeffe summered at Lake George, New York. Most likely she viewed the lake from these very windows.
The video component of the piece is entirely of moving hands. In many of Stieglitz's photographs of O'Keeffe, her hands become an expressive focus of the work.
